Collecting fashion – from T-shirts to haute couture
The textile package
The exhibition ‘Collecting Fashion: From T-Shirts to Haute Couture’ is dedicated to the fascination of collecting clothing. It shows T-shirts as a reflection of pop culture, lingerie in the context of changing ideals of female beauty, haute couture ensembles based on Swiss designs, and men's fashion from the 1920s to the 1940s. Complemented by selected pieces from the collection of the Textile Museum St. Gallen, it shows how fashion conveys knowledge and inspiration while at the same time demanding responsibility in dealing with cultural heritage.
Visitors are invited to question their own relationship to clothing, between conscious design, fashionable consumption and unconscious accumulation. Artistic interventions by Andrea Vogel and Rebecca Bowring open up further perspectives by focusing on discarded textiles and the emotional value of private collections.
Enjoy a fascinating tour through the Textile Museum, then treat yourself to culinary delights at the Bistro St.Gallen. After a restful night in our soft beds, recharge at the breakfast buffet and unwind in the wellness area.
