Wayne Shorter (* August 25, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey; † March 2, 2023 in Los Angeles) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. With John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, he was among the "front line" of saxophonists in modern jazz. "His playing has been characterized as poetic, enigmatic, and at the same time natural and completely logical in itself." The saxophonist is one of the most stylistically influential artists in jazz. He is considered one of the most important and influential performers in jazz history.
